An older piece of Sean’s that I love. Judas has always fascinated me, and growing up in the Bible Belt, where his character is simply synonymous with “traitor,” it wasn’t popular to try to see things from his perspective- to stop and ask yourself what you’d have done in his place. A true tortured soul.
Judas Iscariot:
flesh, blood, and fear
had to ride a camel 20 hours
to see his simple father
-through to Judea
and beggars between
No friend ever followed
that could stay awake
And in silence he sat
and ached at sight
of the throngs and their thirsting
hopes cracked in the heat
Plenty of time to
pour over a prophecy
and weigh ‘gainst the Pharisees
silvershine gleamings
intentions ablazeIn the world of the martyr
I pray to the murder
told prior its time
and acted outrighta crow in a storm
at the whim of the wind
singing silver-piece hopes
gently to that dark night
